Have you been trying to get the divot in front of the golf ball? Do you keep your weight forward in the upswing? And still getting those massive divots? You are probably over-compensating for the weight shift you were holding. This causes many problems like coming in very steep to the ball and more than likely a chunking situation. Let's readjust some things and get everything lined back up so we can hit the balls dead solid clean. Let's get started!

I look forward to working with you much more in the future with Top Speed Golf. Good luck with your golf.

  1. Nice video Clay. I like these drills. Correct weight shift and swing plane are really helping me, but this drill should help me to position my hands for better club head release.

  2. I need to work on this especially with my woods or at least the feeling of it. Have such an issue with not rotating my hands enough

  3. Hi clay, I liked your stuff back at Rotary but really like what you’re doing with the Top Speed channel. I used to get much better lag years ago using these techniques but drifted away over time trying to release earlier to hit a draw, but contact is so inconsistent. Im going to work on getting back to this but I was wondering if rotating the wrist down like this works with woods off the deck and the driver? It seems like I’ve tried it before with woods and it’s just too much forward shaft lean produced when rotating the left wrist downwards. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    1. Thanks a lot. I know what you mean. If you over do this, the ball will come out too low and won’t have enough loft. It is ok to do a small amount, but not nearly as much as you would with a spinning wedge. Best of luck! Hope you lag the heck out of it!! ~Clay

  4. Quit using the terminology Left and Right. Instead use front and rear, when referring to arm and leg movement. That way it is far more easily understandable to both Right and Left Handed Golfers.

    1. Rory W while you are right that’s rather rude. You say “I suggest that you use …. instead of left and right”

    2. Yeah that’s a pretty rude way to word it, especially someone who’s creating videos that are giving value. You should read a book called “How to Win Friends and Influence People”

    3. Honestly, if you’re too stupid recognize and apply right and left inversely to your golf swing if you aren’t of the same handedness as the teacher then you’re watching the wrong video.

    1. Hi early bird, I agree. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. Stay tuned…more great stuff to come. Play well. ~ Quentin Patterson | Top Speed Golf Instructor

  5. I watched this yesterday and then went to the driving range today to try this. The “secret” really worked. I hit the ball much more solid and my distance was crazy! I usually hit my pitching wedge 100 – 110 yards. I tried your method and hit it 130 -140. Thanks for the tip!

    1. Hi ZenGolfer, THAT’S GREAT! Glad we were able to help. Play well. ~ Quentin Patterson | Top Speed Golf Instructor

    2. ZenGolfer Golfer hey same thing happened to me. my buddies were puzzled at how I was crushing the ball last couple rounds. best secret re fwd shaft lean

  6. Who else thought there was some sort of practice tool laying in the grass behind the guy? Yes, I mean the logo XD

  7. Now I know why my (seemingly but not actually) “good” shots fly off to the left! I came to this video to help stop hitting behind the ball, and came away with that bonus. Thanks.

    1. Hi Arnold

    1. Hi Connor, thanks and we’re glad you liked the video. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

  8. I always focus on the centre of my chest bing ahead of the ball at impact. Helps me….. Other trick is to keep accelerating through the ball. If you ever slow down you’re bound to chunk..!

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for sharing. Those are some great tips. Hope you’re playing great! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
